The main reason for the rapid spread of cancer among young people has come to light

The reason for the rapid spread of cancer among young people has come to light.

The risk of young people developing certain types of cancer has increased steadily since the 1950s. The good news is that the number of cancer deaths worldwide is decreasing.

Cancer deaths

have decreased over the past 30 years due to reduced smoking rates, improved treatment and early detection facilities. In America alone, the number of deaths from cancer has decreased by about 4 million.

Some time ago,

a joint study by Harvard University in the United States, Zhejiang University in China and the University of Edinburgh in the United Kingdom reported that the rate of cancer cases among people under the age of 50 increased by about 80 percent over the past 30 years.

In 1990,

the number of cancer cases among young people was less than 2 million, but in 2019, the number increased to more than 3 million. This period saw a 27% increase in the death rate of people aged 30 and 40 from cancer.

According to the research,

more than 1 million people under the age of 50 years die due to cancer every year. Another study found that people born in the 1990s were four times more likely to develop rectal cancer than those born in the 1980s.

In 2023,

the American Cancer Society reported in a report that 20 percent of colorectal cancer cases in 2019 were among patients under the age of 55, which means that the rate of this type of cancer among young people has doubled since 1995. .

According to a 2024 report by the American Cancer Society, colorectal cancer is the leading cause of death in men under the age of 50 compared to other types of cancer. is at no.

this type of cancer was the fourth leading cause of death.

With the increase in the prevalence of cancer among young people, doctors and researchers are trying to understand why the disease is spreading so rapidly.

Dr. Ashley Cheng Chi-kin of CUHK Medical Center

said that the rapid spread of various types of cancer among people under the age of 50 is not limited to the United States.

He said that this is happening all over the world and it is not easy to explain why the cases of cancer are increasing rapidly, which is why researchers are working to find out the causes of cancer. .

One reason

may be increased cancer screening, he added, while other factors such as a person's diet, lifestyle, body weight, environmental influences and germs also likely play a role.

A report from the Yale School of Medicine reported that colorectal cancer is most commonly diagnosed in young adults. According to medical experts, a sedentary lifestyle (spending too much time sitting in front of a screen) plays a major role in this regard.

Another study found that high consumption of ultra-processed foods increased the risk of developing all types of cancer by 10 percent.

It should be noted that ultra-processed foods are processed multiple times during preparation and are high in salt, sugar and other artificial ingredients while low in healthy nutrients such as fiber.

Ultra-processed foods include bread,

fast foods, sweets, coffees, cakes, snacks, breakfast cereals, chicken and fish nuggets, instant noodles, sugary drinks and sodas.

A number of research reports have also identified a link between high sugar consumption and cancer.

According to experts, the high consumption of sugar increases the process of insulin formation and the risk of cancer increases with high levels of insulin in the blood.

Many experts

say that high sugar consumption leads to weight gain and obesity leads to increased accumulation of fat cells, which release inflammation-promoting proteins and damage DNA.

Experts have suggested that any kind of changes in the body should be noticed and medical examination should be done.
